At Jigsaw, we give toddlers the freedom to explore that growing independence in an environment where they feel safe, supported and encouraged to have a go.

Being a Toddler is an exciting stage. Children are finding new ways to communicate, testing what their bodies can do, developing strong opinions and beginning to understand what it means to be part of a group.
Our role is to give them opportunities to explore all of this safely.
That means plenty of time to play, move, talk, investigate, create and try things for themselves — with familiar adults nearby to offer encouragement, reassurance and a helping hand when it's needed.
“I can have a go” is one of the most important things a toddler can learn.

That relationship also creates an important connection between nursery and home, helping us work together as your child's needs and routines continue to change.

Starting somewhere new can feel very different for every toddler. We give children time to become familiar with their environment, routines and the people around them.
Before starting, communication with families helps us understand your child's routines, interests, communication and what helps them feel comfortable.
Time spent exploring the nursery and getting to know familiar practitioners helps somewhere new gradually become somewhere recognisable.
As children feel more secure, they're increasingly able to move away from familiar adults, investigate their surroundings and become involved in nursery life.
Settling isn't about reaching a particular point on a timetable. We continue responding as relationships, confidence and independence develop.

When a toddler builds, pours, paints, pretends, climbs or repeatedly asks “why?”, they're doing far more than keeping busy.

Our practitioners create opportunities for children to follow their interests while introducing new experiences and ideas that can take their thinking a little further.
Learning at Jigsaw is guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage, but for children it should still feel like what it is — play.

Whether it's having a go at putting something away, washing their hands, helping at mealtimes or beginning their toilet-learning journey, small achievements can build enormous confidence.

Questions Parents Often Ask
We recommend that you provide a spare change of clothes and a cup. You can also provide snacks and food if you prefer us to use your own from home.
Please be aware that we are a Nut Free setting.Children develop at different rates and their need for daytime rest can vary. We'll add Jigsaw's specific arrangements for toddler sleep and rest here.
We work with families as children begin developing toileting independence, recognising that every child becomes ready at a different time.
Young children's relationship with food can change considerably. We aim to keep mealtimes positive and work with families around individual needs. You can find more information on our Food & Nutrition page.
Communication between nursery and home helps families stay connected with their child's experiences, with Famly used to share important nursery information and updates.
Children respond differently to new environments. Our approach focuses on building familiarity, relationships and confidence at a pace appropriate to the individual child.
